About My Swing Academia

This isn’t your average dance program, it’s a place for dancers who want to train, grow, and push for something greater.

Inspired by the grind of real training arcs, My Swing Academia was built to help you level up with purpose, whether you’re a beginner, competitor, or somewhere in between.

We believe in community, creativity, and always getting better, one rep, one round, one dance at a time.

How Our Camp Runs

Glimpse at the Weekend

Our weekend is designed with structure, purpose, and time to grow.

Each dancer is placed into a small group based on level, where they’ll train with the same instructors every morning.

Throughout the day, dancers rotate between workshops, focused training sessions, and social dancing, all designed to challenge, support, and level you up.

Leveled Groups

Why this is important

Everyone is welcome at this camp whether you compete, social dance, or are just starting your training journey. Our goal is to help everyone improve in an environment that feels supportive, challenging, and structured.

To make sure classes run smoothly and dancers get the most out of each session, you’ll be placed into a leveled group based on your experience. We kindly ask that you do not attend classes above your assigned level, as this disrupts the pacing and learning environment for others.

You’re absolutely encouraged to attend classes below your level, especially if you want to refine your fundamentals. Just check that the class has space before joining so everyone has room to grow.

Understanding Class System

Which class you are put into based on level

Class 1-A

Novice

Class 2-A

Intermediate

Class 3-A

Adv/All-Star

To help you get the most out of the weekend, we use a Class System to guide which workshops and training sessions you should attend. Your assigned class lets you know where you’ll train, who you’ll train with, and which sessions are best suited for your experience level.

You’ll notice each class includes a number and a letter (for example: 1-A, 2-A, 3-A).

The number represents the general skill level, while the letter is part of a sorting system designed for future growth.

As this event evolves, we plan to introduce additional class options (such as 1-B or 2-B). These would remain the same general level, but with smaller group sizes to create more intimate training environments and allow coaches to give more individualized attention.

For this year, our class structure is simple:

  • 1-A — Novice

  • 2-A — Intermediate

  • 3-A — Advanced / All-Star

This system allows us to keep training organized now, while building toward an even stronger, more personalized experience in the years to come.

How We Choose Your Group

WSDC Points

If you hold a WSDC competition level, you qualify for your assigned role. You are not limited to this, you are still allowed to audition up a level in our exams

Examination

Before orientation on Friday we will hold an "Exam". Here we will give you the opportunity to dance for your coaches, who will either approve you dancing into that level or place you into the previous level.

Video Submission

We’ll be opening a Dropbox or Google Drive link for you to submit a video for level placement. Submissions will only be accepted during a limited window so we can review each one properly.

A pass must be purchased before submitting.

Using

Your hub for the weekend

We will be using Discord as our main communication hub throughout the weekend. This is where we will share important announcements, schedule updates, and any real-time information you may need during the event.

Discord also gives you a space to organize practice sessions with other dancers, stay in direct contact with your homeroom teachers, and connect with your group and the wider My Swing Academia community.

We know that not everyone is familiar with Discord, and that is completely okay. To make things easy, we have included a short walkthrough video that shows you exactly how to navigate the app and use the features you will need for the weekend.

Once you have watched the video and spent a little time in the app, the process becomes simple and intuitive. Discord helps keep everything organized and accessible so you can focus on dancing, training, and having a great experience.
